In June 2024 my 70 year old father and myself undertook the 14 day Ladahk / Zanskar tour with Hashim and his team. Both my father and I would have no hesitation in doing another tour with Hashim. The following points highlight why we could not have been happier with our experience.
Karma Yatri keeps the group sizes small compared to most other operators. We know this because we passed many other tour groups on the roads with 15 – 30 bikes in the groups. It was obvious that these bigger groups meant far less fun on the bikes – slower pace, no photo stops, huge variability in riding abilities etc. A smaller group size also lets Karma Yatri choose much more interesting accommodation. We spent half our nights in amazing homestays, eating local Ladahk food and talking with the locals (through Hashims translating) and learning about their life.
Hashim and his team are local. Hashim is from Kashmir and Jigmet is from Leh. Because of this both of them have superb knowledge on everything in Ladahk and wider India including food, culture, geography, history. This means that this isn’t just a bike tour but you get immersed in the local culture as well, something that i don’t think you’d get if you went with a western tour operator.
Hashim finds the small interesting back roads that other tour companies don’t seem to use (we didn’t see any other bikes on some of the roads we did). On our tour our favourite part was Zanskar due to the remoteness, lack of other tourists, dirt roads, stunning views. This was particularly noticeable when towards the end of the trip we went to Nubra valley which was packed with other bike tours and made us very aware of how lucky we were to have spent most of our tour on quiet back roads.
When i was researching tour companies to go with hundreds of options came up on google. The reason i decided to go with Karma Yatri was mainly because Hashim offered more remote area / backroads routes in his Zanskar tour but also because his communication was excellent. He was quick to reply, answered my many questions and provided guidance on what to bring, best months to go, level of riding technicality etc.

Our itineraries have been well researched and seamlessly planned in order to give you the maximum experience but, still have the relative flexibility of allowing a road trip to be spontaneous and adaptive to your curiosity on the journey.
A passion that keeps growing with every riding season. New roads to discover, more friends to ride with is his mantra. He speaks Hindi, Kashmiri, Tamil, English, German, French and a smattering of other Indian dialects. A native of Kashmir means that a vast network that can be called upon in case of any emergency or contingencies.
